This is nihilism? I can see how you must feel about Nietzsche.

        What does that mean?

It represents thoughtless optimism, even when one has thrown out the possibility of there being a self (nature) or meaning (religion). A complete disregard of both nature and God. We’ve turned meaninglessness into an avenue for self-expression. “There is no you, you rootless nothing of an animal. You have no purpose. But that’s great news! Now you can be whatever you want!” This requires a refusal to honestly seek the foundation your desires, which would presumably found your new “self.” This new way of thinking breaks with both traditional religious and enlightenment thinking and is the fundamental principal of modern liberalism.

While I’d wager that this kid meant something more like Nike’s “Just do it” you are correct. That is, unless there is no god and life has no meaning. That would make _you_ the nihilist.
